Corven Engineering works with owners, contractors, and other engineers or as a part of a larger integrated team to produce complete concrete bridge designs. We design complex concrete post-tensioned and cable-stayed bridge bridges from foundations to superstructures. Contract Drawings and Specifications are developed in accordance with proven details and methodologies, kept current by knowledge gained from our other core work areas. Our experience includes delivering bridge designs in a variety of delivery formats, including design-bid-build, design-build, and other innovative methods.
Construction Engineering
The Engineers and Technicians at Corven Engineering have worked on the design and construction of significant cable-stayed bridges. This includes bridges with both concrete and steel superstructures. John Corven has participated in or directed the design of 9 cable-stayed bridges, 5 of which have been constructed. The nature of these bridges requires the complex analyses, specialized design, and proven detailing provided by our staff.
Inspection & Rehabilitation
Understanding the condition of existing prestressed concrete bridges is key to controlling their safe operation. Corven Engineering has specialized experience in the condition evaluation of post-tensioning tendons. We often partner with local engineers with excellent traditional inspection resources to evaluate complex post-tensioned bridges.
Extending the useful life of existing bridges is an important component of meeting future transportation needs. Innovative post-tensioning solutions can enhance load carrying capacity and extend bridge life. Diligent analytical re-creation of as-built bridge conditions in accordance with original construction and condition changes over time helps us develop cost-effective rehabilitation solutions.
Technology Development
Our team highly values opportunities to advance the technology of prestressed concrete bridges. We have worked with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State DOT’s to further design methodologies, construction details, specifications, and inspection procedures. Of special importance is our focus on increasing the durability of post-tensioned bridges.
